Rabbit Terminology

These are words that you will see around my website and go "what does that mean?" Here are the answers:

ARBA- American Rabbit Breeders Association
NFFGRB- National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders
Pet Quality- A rabbit that has disqualifications from show.
Show Quality- A rabbit with no disqualifications for show.
Open Show- Any age of person can show. Rabbit must be purebred. Can get a leg.
4-H Show- person showing must be enrolled in 4-H (4-H only goes until you're 19 years old) Can have purebred or crossbred rabbits. Can not get a leg.
Leg- A winning that you earn when your rabbit gets B.O.V.,B.O.G., B.O.S.G., B.O.B., B.O.S., B.I.S., B.O.S.G., & B.O.S.V. There must be at least 4 rabbits and 3 breeders in order to get a leg. Once you have 3 legs, your rabbit is a grand champion.
Molt- Shedding
BOB- Best of Breed
BOG-Best of Group
BOS- Best Opposite sex
BIS- Best in show
BOSG- Best opposite sex of group
BOv- Best of variety
BOSV-Best opposite sex of variety
Kindling- When a doe gives birth
REW- Red eyed white
Sire- Father of rabbit
Dam- Mother of Rabbit
Pedigree- a chart showing the ancestors of a particular rabbit 3 generations back.
Kit- Baby rabbit
Variety- Color of Rabbit
Herd- a group of rabbits
Gestation- The time between breeding and kindling.
Doe- Female Rabbit
Buck- Male Rabbit
Hock- The underside of a rabbits hind foot
Dewlap- A fold of skin hanging from the throat of a doe
Weaning- When you seperate the doe and young, so they can no longer nurse
Junior- a rabbit under 6 months
Intermediate- a rabbit that's 6-8 months of age (only larger breeds) Also called a 6-8
Senior- In small breeds a rabbit over 6 months of age, in large breeds a rabbit over 8 months of age
